On June 24, 2010 at 16:01 hrs the Robert Fulton Fire Co along with Quarryville, Rising Sun, Water Witch fire companies and the Wakefield Ambulance were dispatched for a reported detached garage on fire. Deputy 5-13 (R. Sample) arrived in four minutes with heavy fire showing from sides A, B, and D of a single story garage attached to a 50 X 60 two story barn and immediately requested a second alarm bringing units from Oxford, Bart, Rawlinsville, and Refton. Within two minutes the fire had extended into the barn.
Engine 5-13-1, Tanker 5-13, and Engine 5-13-3 all arrived four minutes later and prepared for the attack. Engine 1’s crew was directed to pull two 1 ¾ attack lines and set up inside the C side barn doors so as to force the fire back out the A side while a third 1 ¾ line was pulled to damped the rapidly progressing fire on the outside of side A of the main barn. Next due companies including Quarryville’s Engine 5-7-4 and Truck 5-7 began arriving and assisting our crews with final extinguishment and overhaul.
By concentrating our efforts on the large barn, crews were able to save it as well as the milking parlor and milk house under the barn. The garage however was a total loss.
No live stock or crops were in the barn at the time of the fire. All crews did a superb job considering the 90+ degree day.
