On Sunday July 25 at 15:13 hrs the Robert Fulton Fire Company, Union Fire Company of Oxford, Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, and the Wakefield Ambulance Assoc. were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire at 303 Kirks Mill Road in Little Britain Township.
Deputy 5-13 (R. Sample) arrived with fire showing from the B side gable end of a split level roof line. Upon further investigation, the fire had extended into the main attic portion of the home as well as a secondary attic area over the garage from an apparent lightning strike.
Engine 5-13-1 arrived and was directed to pull two 1 ¾ attack lines, one to the main attic area through the front door and one to the lower attic area through the garage. The fire was then pushed out of the attic, saving the home from major fire damage.
Unfortunately with a fire in the attic, water used to extinguish the fire typically runs through the structure into the living area. The extra man-power on scene assisted with throwing salvage tarps over furniture and other personal items to keep water from causing further damage.
The fire was brought under control in 21 minutes and all units cleared the scene at 16:34
